I’m completely bundled up today
\nfrom the knee-high boots on my feet
\nto the coat I have named “Bear”
\nto the scarf that wraps twice around my neck
\nto the hood pulled up on my head.<\/p>\n
Even though Bear nearly reaches the ground
\nthe wind still manages to snuggle up next to me
\nsneaking into the openings I’ve carelessly left
\nlike arm and neck holes, and by my feet.<\/p>\n
Black leather gloves with a brown coat
\nThe fashionistas would swoon in anguish
\nSuch a ghastly combination of colors
\nBut everything goes with white, I say.<\/p>\n
When the fluffy stuff piles up
\nconcealing all of winter’s gray
\neverything is muted: sound, light, touch
\ncotton candy marshmallows to the eye.<\/p>\n
So I slog through the impertinent slush
\nmy head down, it looks like cookie dough
\nlook up, and I’ve got flurries in my face
\nI don’t recommend breathing them in
\nthrough your nose.<\/p>\n
Some of the snowflakes were
\nas big as chocolate chips
\nI nearly choked on the water on the breeze
\nwhile my skin cracked in the dry air.<\/p>\n
