{"id":860,"date":"2006-03-27T10:56:22","date_gmt":"2006-03-27T08:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sholeh.calmstorm.net\/word\/archives\/860"},"modified":"2008-02-04T22:24:08","modified_gmt":"2008-02-04T20:24:08","slug":"girodet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sholeh.calmstorm.net\/blog\/archives\/860","title":{"rendered":"Girodet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Tuesday I went with my father and sister to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artic.edu\/aic\/exhibitions\/girodet\/\">Girodet exhibit<\/a> at the Art Institute of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson (1767\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd1824) was a French painter, and the exhibit is overwhelming.  I must say that he is my favorite artist&#8230;the vibrancy of color and attention to detail is amazing, and the way he used light is simply astonishing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.photobucket.com\/albums\/v92\/fireflyinthecity\/1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artic.edu\/aic\/exhibitions\/girodet\/selected_01.html\">Burial of Atala<\/a> is definitely my favorite painting in the exhibit, but I was impressed by the attention to detail in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artic.edu\/aic\/exhibitions\/girodet\/selected_18.html\">Hippocrates Refusing the Gifts of Artaxerxes<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you see <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artic.edu\/aic\/exhibitions\/girodet\/selected_17.html\">Pygmalion and Galatea<\/a><\/em>, note how Girodet manages to transition from marble to human flesh in Galatea&#8217;s body as he shows her transformation from statue to a live being.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit is at the Art Institute until April 30th, so I suggest you check it out ASAP.
