{"id":1317,"date":"2010-12-02T15:13:51","date_gmt":"2010-12-02T21:13:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sholeh.calmstorm.net\/blog\/?p=1317"},"modified":"2011-01-07T19:34:12","modified_gmt":"2011-01-08T01:34:12","slug":"do-aliens-exist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sholeh.calmstorm.net\/blog\/archives\/1317","title":{"rendered":"Do Aliens exist?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8220;Know thou that every fixed star hath its own planets, and every planet its own creatures, whose number no man can compute.&#8221;<br \/>\n<em>-Baha&#8217;u&#8217;llah<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NASA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/topics\/universe\/features\/astrobiology_toxic_chemical.html\" target=\"_blank\">announced a discovery today <\/a>regarding a &#8220;microorganism (that) substitutes arsenic for phosphorus in its cell components.&#8221; It evolved on earth, but it can adapt to things that we consider toxic!<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The definition of life has just expanded,&#8221; said Ed Weiler, NASA&#8217;s  associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at the  agency&#8217;s Headquarters in Washington. &#8220;As we pursue our efforts to seek  signs of life in the solar system, we have to think more broadly, more  diversely and consider life as we do not know it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I have been wondering for a number of years why the search for life always seemed to discuss certain elements as being the <em>only<\/em> building blocks for life. As we look for life on other planets, it seems logical that not everything will be carbon-based, or even resemble what we understand life to be.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mono Lake HDR by Daniel Peckham, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/davaodude\/4362366851\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4053\/4362366851_ed8c31142a.jpg\" alt=\"Mono Lake HDR\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The earth has its inhabitants, the water and the air contain many living beings and all the elements have their nature spirits, then how is it possible to conceive that these stupendous stellar bodies are not inhabited? Verily, they are peopled, but let it be known that the dwellers accord with the elements of their respective spheres.
